Costs to much in gas and AC to go to the drive-in theater

Have you been to the drive-in recently? Back in high school, we went to the drive-in movie theater all the time.

Bear in mind that was over 25 years ago, and the world was a very different place.

Gas was less than fifty cents a gallon, cigarettes weren’t didn’t cost much more. At the drive-in local teenagers had a place to park, hang out, maybe drink some beers or make out with their girlfriends and boyfriends. I was delighted to see that they recently reopened that old drive-in, but the reality of it did not live up to my cherished memory. As hot and humid as it is outside, you can’t sit in your car without the air conditioning on. The total amount of gasoline you will burn up running the engine so you can have A/C for two or three hours is enormous! It had novelty value, of course, but by the end of the double feature I was ready to go home to my central AC and never go back. Back in the day it was the best option we had, but now there are streaming services and PPV, so you can watch whatever films you want on your big screen TV in air conditioned comfort. Maybe when gas prices come back down, and I can afford to run the car’s air conditioner for all that time, I will consider going back. As for now, it’s a lot cheaper, not to mention more convenient, to stay in the air conditioned comfort of my own home for movie night.
