There was a relatively large conflict at a hoops game in the city.
- The game was a section of a four-on-four tournament.
There were hundreds of players from all around the city playing in the tournament. There was a $100 entry fee for each team to compete & the winning team of all won $2,500 & a four-day holiday to the Tropical Islands. During the last game, one of the players was physically attacked! One player was absolutely disappointed with the ref’s call, however she pushed the other player & the ref called a foul… When the ref called a foul, the woman attacked the referee also. She started punching & kicking the guy, then it was one of the craziest things I have ever witnessed. The hoops player lost all of her control to be honest. Three women had to stop the fight. The police were called & the hoops player was actually escorted from the property in handcuffs. A week later, the player had to rest in front of a judge. The woman found a legal attorney to represent her in the case. The attorney fought pretty hard to get the woman a break on the charges. The attorney worked taxing & meticulously, and she won the case & the player didn’t have to spend a single afternoon in jail & she didn’t have to cover the amount in restitution to the referee. I don’t actually know for certain that it is honorable for people with money to get away with crimes, just because they can cover the cost to hire a better attorney. The woman attacked the ref for no apparent reason & in my opinion, she should have at least had to cover the cost for damages & serve a few afternoons in jail for assault & battery.
