Deciding to upgrade the heating/cooling device

When both of us first moved down south plus bought a house, the property needed quite a bit of repairs plus renovation, one of the bathrooms plus the living room required complete remodeling.

Both of us upgraded all of the appliances, fixtures plus drain pipes. Both of us originally hoped to upgrade the heating/cooling unit within the first year! However, both of us had so many other upgrades taking priority that both of us put it off for almost 5 years, but it was a gigantic packaged unit that made a tremendous amount of noise every time it started up. The unit was located outdoors plus was obviously easily old. The outer cupboard showed signs of rust! During the summer, despite the high heat plus humidity, the system managed to keep up with temperature control. The winters in our local area are properly quite mild. One year, both of us experienced a record-setting chilly snap. In heating mode, the unit struggled. It froze many times. Both of us ended up purchasing an electric heating system to supplement it. Other than that, both of us were content with the performance of the packaged heating/cooling unit. Our first sign of any troubles with it were when it supplied warm air in cooling mode. I called for repairs plus fully expected the Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C business to recommend upgradement. The business found a refrigerant leak. He explained that the unit was too aged to find new parts for it. He suggested that both of us try refilling plus recharging the system plus see how long it would hold up. The total service only cost $200. It lasted a year. The following summer, the system once again produced only warm air. I decided not to invest into another repair. It seemed more cost-effective to invest into a new heating plus cooling unit.
