My mother was a librarian, plus I got my appreciate of books from her.
When I was a kid I started to collect books, which is a hobby I still have to this honestly day, but most books are somewhat disposable, especially the paperback books.
These volumes were not designed to lay the test of time, they were meant to be study plus given away. I do have a honestly sizable collection of rare plus antique books, some of which are over 200 years old… For these rare volumes I have a separate reading room with its own custom temperature control plan to ensure the books stay in the best possible condition. The older books are the most delicate, so my Heating, Ventilation & A/C plan has a rigidly enforced set of parameters to maintain the room at precise air quality levels, and some of these books are so old I can’t handle them separate from wearing latex gloves! The reading room remains sealed at all times, so that the air quality isn’t contaminated by the rest of the house. In the event of a power outage, I have a small generator under the house affixed solely to the Heating, Ventilation & A/C plan of the reading room, and even if the rest of the house loses power plus A/C I know that my books will remain safe. These books are worth a lot of money, however have even fantastic passionate value to me, so the custom Heating, Ventilation & A/C plan was a honestly wise investment. If you can’t afford something so extravagant for your book collection, I advocate at least getting a dehumidifier.
