Solar powered heating and cooling

It’s been something of a dream of mine to live completely self sufficient.

I think growing up the way I did had a lot to do with it.

Both of my parents were educated professionals who chose to live as simply as possible. I grew up on a beautiful piece of property with zero neighbors. Our house was big enough for the three of us but didn’t have residential HVAC. Heating was done with a wood stove during the winter. And it was either a cool breeze of a fan for cooling comfort in the summer. But I was instilled with the freedom of living an uncomplicated life. That feeling only grew more intense as I navigated college and wound up inside the commercial HVAC of my first job. I knew that I wasn’t into the career track thing and that job was a means to an end. After saving enough money and acquiring the needed experience, I left that commercial HVAC for my own adventure. These days, I’m nearly totally self sufficient as I have a small cabin in the woods. There is a solar array that provides me with the power I need. Like my folks, I too have a wood stove for heating when it gets cold enough. But unlike my parents, I have a ductless heat pump that is powered by my solar array. So I have some air conditioning in the summer. There is a big garden and some small livestock as well. I’m not even hooked up to electricity. It’s just the sort of life I’ve always wanted to experience. However, I sure do love having that ductless heat pump.
