It’s been something of a dream of mine to live completely self satisfactory… I guess growing up the way I did had a lot to do with it, however both of our parents were educated professionals who chose to live as simply as possible. I grew up on a beautiful piece of property with zero neighbors, then our house was large enough for the 3 of us but didn’t have residential Heating & Air Conditioning… Heating was done with a wood stove during the winter. And it was either a cool breeze of a fan for cooling comfort in the summer. But I was instilled with the freedom of living an uncomplicated life, however that feeling only grew more intense as I navigated college & wound up inside the commercial Heating & Air Conditioning of our first task. I knew that I wasn’t into the career track thing & that task was a means to an end. After saving enough currency & acquiring the needed experience, I left that commercial Heating & Air Conditioning for our own adventure. These days, I’m nearly totally self satisfactory as I have a small apartment in the woods. There is a solar array that provides myself and others with the power I need, then like our folks, I too have a wood stove for heating when it gets chilly enough. But unlike our parents, I have a ductless heat pump that is powered by our solar array! So I have some air conditioning in the summer. There is a large garden & some small livestock as well. I’m not even hooked up to electricity. It’s just the sort of life I’ve always wanted to experience. However, I sure do care about having that ductless heat pump.
