Our HVAC system malfunctioned the previous year just as spring was about to arrive.
I was beyond furious when it went wrong just as the temperature began to rise.
But that’s the kind of luck I have with things at home and in the neighborhood. I’ve noticed that there always seems to be a problem going on somewhere near the house we live in. My roommate and I seem to frequently experience problems with our roof, our appliances, or our heating and air conditioning system. I have no idea what’s going on. When I arrived at that point, I had no idea what to do. I knew that air conditioning systems typically have a lifespan of about half as long as boilers. I’ve been thinking about replacing our heating system and air conditioner at the same time just for this reason. I knew that there would be a higher initial financial outlay, but I also knew that my energy costs would go down after that, which would lead to financial savings. Simply put, I was irritated with myself for having to make so many strange repairs around the house. I have money in the bank set aside for home and other repairs, but over the past year, it seemed to be disappearing alarmingly quickly! A new front door needed to be installed, new gutters needed to be bought, and my friend and I had some roofing problems that needed to be fixed. To put it another way, I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on a brand-new heating and cooling system. I ultimately decided to finish the task even though I didn’t want to waste any time or money in the long run.
