So I’m a bit embarrassed by how empowered I’ve become due to all the videos that I can access online. Any time I have a question or need to diagnose a complication and repair it when it comes to stuff around the house, I jump on the computer. Spending like a half hour inside the central air conditioning seeing instructional videos has made me way overconfident about my skills. This is from a guy who could barely figure out how to change the air filter for the Heating, Ventilation as well as A/C component when my associate and I first obtained this house. I’ve never been exactly mechanically inclined. But I never provided up on it either. For sure, the learning curve that comes with homeownership has been beneficial. At least these days, I’m not afraid of tackling a project and the online videos have been such a massive part of that newfound confidence… Yet, like I said, I’ve slipped into some stark overconfidence lately and the experience with my heating and cooling component has been a reality check. I do not care for that it had to be such an high-priced reality check though. Instead, spurred on by this overconfidence, I thought I could diagnose and then repair the air conditioning issue. Still, I did my online video thing and then tried to repair the cooling problem. That transfer cost me hundreds of dollars more than if I had just called the Heating, Ventilation as well as A/C contractor because I just made everything worse.
