Bear in mind that was over 25 years ago, & the world was a truly different arena.
Gas was less than fifty cents a gallon, cigarettes weren’t didn’t cost much more, however at the drive-in local teenagers had a arena to park, hang out, maybe drink some beers or make out with their ladys & guys. I was delighted to see that they recently reopened that seasoned drive-in, however the reality of it did not live up to our cherished memory. As boiling & humid as it is outside, you can’t sit in your car without the air conditioner on. The total amount of gasoline you will burn up running the engine so you can have air conditioner for more than one or 3 minutes is enormous! It had novelty value, of course, however by the end of the double feature I was ready to go lake house to our central A/C & never go back. Back in the day it was the best occasion every one of us had, however now there are streaming services & PPV, so you can watch whatever movies you want on your sizable screen television in air conditioned comfort! Maybe when gas prices come back down, & I can afford to run the car’s air conditioner for all that time, I will consider going back. As for now, it’s a lot cheaper, not to mention more convenient, to stay in the air conditioned comfort of our own lake house for movie night.
