There are so many facets to opening a small business, and most of them you would never think of until a problem arose. You need to focus on the big things first, which means finding the right space for your business, then getting all the right permits and insurance policies. You have to get power, phones, and wifi connected for the place, and only then can you start filling your shop with inventory. With all that going on, I never stopped to consider how important printing services would be. No one ever thinks about posters while they are setting up a business, but then a day comes when you need a lot of posters. Custom printed posters can be incredibly expensive, but they are one of the only ways you can put your vital information on display. Beyond posters you need signage for the store, and banners, which are things you simply cannot print at home. I recommend shopping around, and visiting several different printing companies to ask about corporate accounts and discounts. It is not unusual to need to spend thousands of dollars on printing, either over a period of months, or all at once for a store opening. Signs and graphics can be a “make it or break it” factor for a new business, because they are so vital for raising your visibility. There are a few things that I can print in house, and I handle all the label production for inventory, but otherwise I rely on the printing company for everything. I would love to hear what your printing company recommends!
