Holding Onto My Old HVAC System

Don’t get me wrong, my utility bills weren’t as low as they possibly could be, but I was comfortable paying for them.

When I moved into my home, I contacted a reliable HVAC technician to come service the HVAC system. I knew that the AC system was 13 years old and the furnace was even older, but they both still cooled and heated the house. I didn’t know the extent to which the HVAC system had been cared for by the previous owners, which is why it was so important for me to get the opinion of an HVAC professional. I had planned on having the entire HVAC system replaced due to the age, but after living in the house for a few months, I realized that they didn’t need to be replaced. The HVAC technician said that other than the age, they were both in working condition. Nothing needed to be replaced or repaired except for the air filter. Of course, the equipment was in rough condition and the age of the air conditioner and furnace weren’t guaranteeing that my HVAC system would run efficiently, but I didn’t think my utility bills were too outrageous. Don’t get me wrong, my utility bills weren’t as low as they possibly could be, but I was comfortable paying for them. A new HVAC system would set me back thousands of dollars, whereas my monthly utility bills were only a couple hundred dollars. I understand that I will have to replace my HVAC system eventually, but I’m hoping to use the current HVAC system as long as possible. I’m going to take my time selecting a new HVAC system.
