The Basement Temperature Was Freezing

When I needed a place to go, my sister kindly let me stay at her house.

She had a finished basement with a half bath that she let me transform into my own space.

I was very grateful for the space, but I was really uncomfortable because there was no central heat or air. The basement was underground, which meant that it was naturally cooler than the rest of the house. I thought this would be fine because I liked to sleep in cooler temperatures and this would be my chance to sleep comfortably without paying for the AC system to run. During that first night though, I woke up feeling colder than I’ve ever felt before and I couldn’t get warm. I layered all the blankets I could find on top of the bed and I put all my layers on. When that didn’t work, I had no choice but to take a hot shower. After losing several hours of sleep, I was finally able to fall asleep. When I told my sister about the cold basement, she told me that she had a portable furnace that I could use during the second night. The portable furnace did provide warmth, but only to a small area that was directly in front of it. In order to keep warm, I put the portable furnace directly beside me and let the warm air blow over me all night. It was the only way that I could sleep comfortably without freezing into a popsicle.
