Last week was the hottest week on record, and we could tell.
The air conditioning unit was working well for the previous three weeks, and I took it as a bad omen. I could feel it in my heart that in the middle of the heatwave, the air conditioning unit was going to stop working. We were only three days into the heat wave when my premonition came true. I woke up in the middle of the night because the air was hot and humid, and it was difficult to breathe. I was hesitant to call the HVAC company because I knew they would charge me after hours charges, which would nearly double the daytime cost. I decided to wait until morning, but that seemed to take forever to arrive. Without air conditioning to help me get a good night’s sleep; I was tired and angry by the time morning arrived. I called the HVAC company, only to be told they couldn’t get to me for another day or two. The heat wave had caused quite a few AC units to break down, and I was at the bottom of the list. I cursed myself for not calling the HVAC company when I first woke up. It would have been nice to know the HVAC company would be coming to the house yet today. The HVAC company called later that afternoon, and they told me they had an opening for the next afternoon. Not having air conditioning didn’t seem so bad when you knew when the HVAC technician was going to arrive. I had a designated time, and all I had to do is wait.
