Once I retired, my wife already had it all planned out.
I had always planned that once I was finished working inside the zone controlled HVAC of the corporate office, I’d retire down south. My work had required that we settle up north. I’m from the midwest and so I was familiar with winter. My wife wasn’t so lucky. She was from the south and all the air conditioning that comes with that. We met in college as I jumped at the chance to go to school in the sunshine. I got hooked quick on all that great weather and HVAC cooling that comes with living in the south. But once it was clear that my career was to be made with the first company I joined, we relocated to the north. That was tough on my wife. She hated the winters but was willing to deal with them as we raised our family. I made sure that she was able to get to the sunshine of the south a couple of times each winter and she lived for that. So as I approached the end of the line inside the zone controlled HVAC of the corporate offices, she was making plans. And those plans were all about moving to the south and enjoying the sort of weather that she had missed for 30 plus years. Once I retired, my wife already had it all planned out. We upgraded the HVAC equipment in our family home and sold it for a bundle. Now, we are in a smaller, 2 bedroom house that has a great big sunroom. That sunroom also comes with a ductless heat pump so we can enjoy all this sunshine no matter the season.
