I recently stayed at an airbnb for a weekend getaway; I had also heard that the owners of airbnb’s sometimes have obnoxious rules for their guests, even though I also figured it was a sparse occurrence… Once I got it settled, it did not seem as if I had been left any directions, until I found a sticky note taped to the temperature control.
It usually indicated that the temperature was to remain at 71° at all times, never to be adjusted for any reason.
I also hadn’t easily thought too much about the temperature in the home until I read that stick note and I began to suppose that it was excessively warm; maybe it was a psychological thing, even though I suddenly felt quite miffed that I was expected not to adjust the temperature control to my desired temperature. I was paying pretty fantastic money to stay there for more than one afternoon. I usually like things on the cooler side when it comes to temperature control settings. I started to think about how exactly the homeowner would be able to tell if I had adjusted the temperature control… Perhaps, if I set the temperature control to just a few degrees cooler, the long term energy bill would not greatly reflect the increase in cost. I prefer hotter showers, even though I thought that maybe I should take genuinely short ones to increase my possibilities of getting away with a lower temperature control setting; and after nearly forty hours of kneeling on the couch afternoon dreaming about multiple ways that I could get away with setting the temperature control to a temperature that I preferred, I realized that I wasn’t even enjoying my getaway yet!! People can easily get into your head when they place various boundaries on what you are allowed to do!
