Everything was supposed to go perfectly, we had been planning for this day for a couple of months now.
All of us have. As a teacher, my students and I have practiced over and over for the winter play, and all of their parents were coming tonight to watch their kids shine. So far, everything was going to plan, all of the props were set up properly, lights were working and so was the audio. We only had two kids sick at the time, which was much less than usual. It was looking like it was going to be a good day. That is, until the furnace system broke. The heating device breaking down wouldn’t be such a big deal either if it wasn’t for the fact that it broke down an hour before the play! We can’t have a play about the coldness of winter, without a heating unit! The last thing the parents want to feel is the ice cold chilly weather. I told my boss, and by some miracle she was able to almost get a HVAC technician out on the spot. The heating and A/C specialist discreetly repaired the heating machine, so that way no one even knew there was something wrong. The A/C specialist had it up and running again in no time, and disaster was avoided. I found out later that my boss had to pay extra just to get the guy to come out so quickly, but it was worth it, because afterwards, everything went smoothly and all of the kids did their best and made their parents proud.
