Glad I’m always over prepared – heater at hotel

My friends and family are always chuckling about how much anxious energy I have, and how deeply I overthink things.

They love the fact that I get so stressed out to go to the grocery store that I’ll wind up in a puddle of tears.

They taunt me over my inability to decide what to eat at every meal. They think it’s adorable that I always overpack the car to prepare for every worst case scenario, even on short weekend trips. Well, after this past weekend they started giving me a little more credit, after my overthinking saved us from disaster. We were traveling though the mountains and pulled over at a janky hotel when the roads got too dark for safety. The only problem was, when we entered our stinky little room, the air was freezing cold. I mean, literally the indoor air temperature was below 30 degrees upon entering. The front desk clerk told us in a bored tone that the heater units all worked similarly in the hotel, and he didn’t have another room or furnace to offer us. He was unconcerned with our clattering teeth, and never even offered to call an HVAC technician or the maintenance department. Everyone was starting to get slightly hysterical, talking about freezing to death in the night and making backup plans to sleep in the car with the heat on all night. That’s when I calmly walked out to the van, rummaged around, and emerged victoriously with a small electric heater in hand. The space heater was powerful enough to raise the temperature in our room near 55 degrees, and we comfortably made it to see daylight. Good thing I was prepared for a total HVAC failure wherever we travelled.
